Title:
Ising correlations via signed loops
Abstract:
The Ising model was introduced in the 1920's as a simple model to
explain properties of ferromagnets. For instance, a ferromagnet
spontaneously loses its magnetization when it is heated to a temperature
above the Curie point. The Ising model undergoes an analogous phase
transition, characterized in terms of its magnetic correlations. After
an introduction to the model, I will explain a geometric method for
studying these correlations, based on the combinatorics of signed loops.
This is joint work with Ronald Meester and Marcin Lis.
