Els van den Berg new Lustrum Coordinator
Els van den Berg will be appointed as Lustrum Coordinator on 1 April 2012. She will coordinate the preparations for the University of Groningen’s 400th anniversary celebrations in 2014 and supervise the Lustrum Office (part of the Communications Department). She will work in close cooperation with the Lustrum Advisory Board, which is headed by Prof. Janka Stoker.
Stoker: ‘The overarching theme of the University’s fourth centennial will be 4∞, or For Infinity. We chose this because it dovetails very nicely with the University of Groningen’s research themes Energy, Healthy Ageing and Sustainable Society, but also because it conveys the feeling that studying and working in Groningen is a unique experience that you will remember for the rest of your life – you will carry Groningen DNA forever, for infinity.’
Els van den Berg studied Art History at the University of Groningen and has a great deal of experience in the national and regional art and culture sector. She worked, for example, as an exhibition maker for the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and the Bergkerk in Deventer, as a coordinator for the Kunst op Straat project of the Groningen Centre for Visual Arts and as a culture education consultant for KunstStation C in Winsum. She is also Head of the GOOV Muziektheater, an amateur music theatre group that has been working on ‘Aletta, de Musical’ since September 2011 and whose Recommendations Committee includes Rector Magnificus Prof. Elmer Sterken. Performances are planned around the Aletta Jacobs Prize award ceremony in March 2014, and the University of Groningen Lustrum celebrations will be held in June of that year.
