‘Me and Us’ as seen by the University of Groningen Language Centre students

26 October 2011

‘During History Month, the University of Groningen Language Centre and the Groningen Public Library will organize a cultural afternoon during which stories about Groningen will be read aloud, accompanied by an international ensemble. ‘Ik en Wij: Groningen door de ogen van nieuwe Groningers’ (Me and Us: Groningen through the eyes of new Groningers) will offer a refreshing look at the life and history of the city of Groningen and its surroundings.

There are many students and academics at the University of Groningen who at some point have studied Dutch at the Language Centre. As part of the courses in the months prior to History Month such language students have written stories about where they live, inspired by the ‘Me and Us’ theme. They wrote about the Groningers, about their favourite spots in the city and province, about how people live here or about things that strike them when ‘me a stranger’ becomes ‘one of us Groningers’. The stories about life in the northern Netherlands are hilarious, touching and provide food for thought.

Sunday 30 October 2011, 2 p.m., free admission.
