Zijlstra to extend funding for top research schools Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials and NOVA
State Secretary Halbe Zijlstra is planning to extend the funding for the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, according to the Strategic Agenda he submitted to the Dutch House of Representatives last Friday. Funding for the top research school in astronomy NOVA is also set to be prolonged.
NOVA and the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials both received the predicate ‘exemplary’ after an evaluation by NWO last year, as they had both proven that they are among the very best in their field.
At the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, physicists, chemists and biologists collaborate on interdisciplinary research into new materials that will shape the future. Nanoscience has an extremely important role to play in this regard.
The world-class nature of the research taking place at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials was confirmed last year by a ranking of materials research institutes published by the British education journal Times Higher Education. The Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials came in ninth place, ahead of prestigious universities such as Princeton, Stanford and Cambridge.
