Title:Pluralizing zeta
Abstract:
With Euler and Riemann, a magical object entered mathematics: the zeta function. The magic lies in the fact that the mysterious ways of complex analysis can be made to bear fruit on problem in combinatorics, number theory, dynamics or geometry. In the talk, I will first show some of the traditional magic, and then discuss why it is interesting to replace "one zeta function" by "many zeta functions": the new philosophy is that several structures (such as Riemannian manifolds and number fields) - that are maybe not uniquely determined by one zeta function - can be completely captured by such a family of zeta functions (joint work with Matilde Marcolli and Jan Willem de Jong).
Colloquium coordinators are Prof.dr. A.C.D. van Enter (e-mail : A.C.D.van.Enter@rug.nl) and
