Dirk Pieter van Donk appointed as professor in Operations Management

As of 1 September 2010, Dr. D.P. van Donk has been appointed as professor in Operations Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. Operations Management focuses on the strategic, tactical and operational management of planning, design, production and supply of goods and services. Van Donk's research specifically focuses on planning and scheduling in the food processing industry, and supply chain management and integration. The chair is embedded in the department of Operations , with Operations, Operations Research and Industrial Engineering as areas of special interest.

Dirk Pieter van Donk (Hoorn, 1961) studied econometrics and management & organization at the University of Groningen. In 1995, also in Groningen, he obtained his PhD with the thesis Een model voor personeelbesturing (A Model for Human Resource Management). In 1990 he started working as a university lecturer Production/Operations Management and in 2002 he became associate professor. From 2001 to 2006 he was coordinator of the PhD students at the SOM research school. Van Donk very frequently publishes in internationally highly prestigious journals, among which the Journal of Operations Management. On 1 May 2010, he was also appointed as director of the OPERA research institute (Operations Management & Operations Research).
