Science LinX at Noorderzon

This week, Science LinX, the science centre of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, will be presenting some of its exhibits in the Noorderzon Qu3 installation – a 1000 m3 cube combining art and science. Qu3 is an initiative of the Groningen Science Centre, a collaboration between educational institutions in Groningen.

To showcase the discoveries and wonders of scientific research, a number of interactive exhibits from Science LinX will move to the Qu3 for its 10-day run. Visitors will be challenged to move beyond the familiar, for example in the installation ‘Macht-tig’ (created with support from the Dutch Nanopodium). In it, researchers are brought to life using ‘augmented reality’, where an extra visual layer is projected on top of reality. They can also organize a football match between robot fish, or order their own DNA from the UMCG’s DNA Bar.

Workshops and Qu4mance

Each day, a Qu4mance – a lecture, performance or debate – will be held in the Qu3. There is also a daily programme of workshops where participants can be challenged to create the longest chain reaction in the ‘Lauf der Dinge’ competition, or to go a bit batty with the help of sonar goggles in ‘Bat Sounds’.

Art Meets Science

Science LinX cooperated with the artists Chantalla Pleiter, Tarik Barri and Teackele Soepboer especially for Qu3. The results can be admired in the installations ‘Ficus Benjaminnen’ and ‘Het GeluidsUniversum’. Here, too, visitors can explore boundaries, interact with talking plants, or create their own universe in the planetarium at the top of the cube.
