In collaboration between Science LinX and Nanopodium, the HPC/V developed an augmented reality application for the permanent exhibition in the hall of the Bernouilliborg. For this, Science LinX and a team of experts have created a new interactive exhibit using the designplans of two students of the master Education and Communication. The concepts for the design were based on the theme "The Powers of Ten". The chosen name for the exbitit is 'MACHT-tig'.
The setup will display a large number of virtual objects from very small to very large. A researcher says something fascinating about the selected object. This teaches visitors a sense of scale and gives some insight into scientific research done at the faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
The chosen technique is called 'augmented reality'. Here the visitor gets a pair of glasses containing two small displays and a camera which records the environment. The software detects special patterns and projects computer-generated images over the actual camera footage. Suddenly the cube appears to be hollow, with exciting content.
For the outsider without the augmented reality glasses, everything looks a little strange, but this effect adds to the magic of the exhibit. More info can be found at the website of Science Linx.
