Second symposium 'Bridging Science and Practice' on 18 September 2009

20 August 2009

On 18 September 2009 the Expertise Center HRM & OB of the Faculty of Economics and Business will organise the second symposium 'Bridging Science & Practice'. The theme of the day will be The people make (and break) the place: power, leadership and ethical decision making. Key-note speaker Jeroen Smit will provide the opening.

During this symposium the expertise centre will show how contemporary questions of organisations can be answered with the help of scientific research. Central questions are:

  • What motivates employees to use their power and knowledge to the fullest for the organisation and how can abuse in this be prevented?
  • What is the exact influence of leadership and power on (non)ethical behaviour within organisations?
  • How can ethical decisionmaking be integrated within daily practices?

  • How big is the gap between ethical conduct and the pressure to perform that many employees feel today, and how can this be bridged?

Speakers

The opening of the symposium will be provided by key-note speaker Jeroen Smit. Smit is author of the bestseller 'De Prooi. Blinde trots breekt ABN AMRO' (translated 'The Prey. Blind Pride breaks ABN AMRO'). Recently he was named Alumnus of the Year by the University of Groningen. Other speakers at the symposium are Janka Stoker (professor of Leadership and Organisational Change, and Senior Managing Consultant at Berenschot) and Pauline van der Meer-Mohr (former Senior Executive Vice President and head of Human Resources ABN AMRO).

More information

People who from their position are involved in answering the questions mentioned above, or who want to know what the Expertise Center can mean for their organisations, are very much invited to participate at the symposium.

The costs for participation are €350,- (excl. BTW). People who register before 1 August 2009 receive a discount of €50,-. The symposium will be held at the Remonstrant Church in Groningen.
