Former student of Business Administration Jeroen Smit first Alumnus of the Year RUG
Jeroen Smit, author of the bestseller ‘De Prooi’ (in English ‘The Prey’) on the selling and dismantling of the ABN AMRO bank, is the first Alumnus of the Year of the University of Groningen. Smit graduated from the study Business Administration in 1986. On 13 June 2009 Smit receives an artwork, presented by Recor Magnificus Frans Zwarts, as a token of appreciation for his exceptional societal accomplishments.
According to the jury, presided by the Rector Magnificus, Jeroen Smit showed in writing ‘De Prooi’ “a researching and analytical approach combined with a clear and dynamic style of writing. His subjects are very newsworthy in an age in which the modern world stands for severe challenges. Smit makes these challenges concrete.”
The University of Groningen is proud of her alumni (people who are graduated of received their Phd at the RUG). They are ambassadors of the university and the RUG wants to honor this special bond by presenting an annual award to an alumnus who has achieved great societal accomplishment. The Alumnus of the Year is proposed by the community of alumni. This year the Award will be presented for the first time on the alumniday, an event for the 395th Anniversary Celebrations at the RUG.
