As of 1 October 2008, Wim Holterman has been appointed professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen. He holds the new chair in Business Valuation, within the department of Accountancy.

Holterman’s main task will be the development and organization of an executive master’s degree programme in Business Valuation, that focuses on valuation experts working in business. They work, for example, at merger and takeover department of stock market-listed firms, at banks, at accountancy firms and at private equity parties. Their numbers have grown over the last few years as a result of an increasing number of mergers and takeovers, the rise of private equity, company transfers of family firms and the new accountancy regulations to include takeovers in the annual accounts of firms.

The demand for valuation experts is expected to rise in the coming years. Moreover, their jobs have become more complex. How do you value, for example, the brands, the technology and the human capital of a firm? Another example is the obligation for internationally operating firms to value their takeovers every year. This obligation is all the more imperative in the current credit crisis.
The existing degree programmes in the field of business valuation have not kept up with these developments. The executive master’s degree programme will meet the demands of business. In addition to the executive master’s programme, Wim Holterman will contribute to the accountancy programmes.

Curriculum vitae
Wim Holterman (Raalte, 1960) studied business economics at the University of Groningen. He obtained his doctorate at the same university in 1993. Since then, he has been working for PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he, as a partner, now leads the Dutch valuation practice. In addition, he is responsible for the academic office of PwC’s world-wide Valuation and Strategy practice.
