Research into performances and operations of pension fund boards
Montae and the faculty’s Corporate Governance Insights Centre will jointly conduct research into the operations of pension fund boards. The research project should lead to practically relevant and scientifically based results and best practices, which every pension fund board can take advantage of.
The research project focuses on the practice at the board table, the so-called black box. Elements of the research project take a close look at cooperation methods, interpretation of tasks and roles, the role of the chairman, expertise, but also board members’ time management for example. Key questions are: What is a well-functioning board? How can improvements be made? How does board performance influence fund performance?
The cooperation between RUG and Montae started recently with the development of the so-called Board Functioning Index, an on-line instrument to be used for the self-evaluation of boards. Montae’s role in the cooperation consists of the input of practical knowledge about pension funds and their boards. The centre of expertise CGIC puts in its scientific knowledge and experience from its multidisciplinary vision on board performances.
The CGIC is one of the centres of expertise of the Faculty of Economics and Business and was founded in September 2007. The CGIC brings together researchers from different disciplines such as economics, management, strategy, finance and accounting. The researchers find each other in their interest in governance research and its applicability.
Montae is an indepent service organisation for the collective pension funds.
