Maarten van der Vlerk professor Stochastic Optimization
As of 1 March 2008, Maarten van der Vlerk has been appointed as professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen. He holds the chair Stochastic Optimization, within the research institute OPERA (Operations Management and Operations Research), in the department of Operations. Van der Vlerks chair specializes in design, analysis and implementation of mathematical models of optimization to support decision-making under uncertainty.
Van der Vlerk (Assen, 1961) studied Econometrics at the University of Groningen. He was awarded his PhD in Economics for his thesis ‘Stochastic Programming with Integer Recourse’. In 1999, he received a prestigious fellowship from the KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences). From 2006 onwards, he is programme director of the bachelor programme Econometrics and the master programme Econometrics, Operations Research & Actuarial Studies.
