UnExpected Values at the Future of Game-Based Learning event
On April 13, 2026, UnExpected Values: The Open Future was presented in a 30-minute interactive workshop at The Future of Game-Based Learning and Gamification event, held at the House of Connections in Groningen.
In this session, participants will engage with a playable version of the game, exploring how innovation in Open Education unfolds within complex institutional environments. By taking on stakeholder roles, participants navigate competing incentives, limited resources, and shifting reward structures that shape real-world decision-making.
Rather than discussing dilemmas in the abstract, the game immerses participants in the dynamics that influence educational change. It highlights how well-intentioned actors may still make suboptimal or ethically ambiguous decisions, while opening space to reflect on how systems can be redesigned to support more open and collaborative futures in education.
