Piling work for the new sports centre

Construction of the new University of Groningen and Hanze University sports centre has begun! This will be a modern and sustainable facility which students and staff are expected to be able to use from 2028.

The site on the north side of the current sports centre has recently been prepared for construction. Now that this preparatory work has been completed, pile-driving work is set to begin. This work will start on Friday 3 July and is expected to last until Saturday 25 July. Please bear in mind that the pile-driving may cause some noise disturbance.

Throughout the construction period, the footpath at Blauwborgje will remain closed. You can easily take a detour via the footpath alongside the KnickerBockers’ sports pitches (past the I-building). Below is a map showing the diversion route.
