Phase 2 construction of Feringa Building starts
Construction consortium Friso Koopmans started the second phase of construction of the Feringa Building in mid-November. To start the second phase, part of building 5118 (Nijenborgh 4) had to be demolished first. Now that this is finished, construction can begin.
Last part of Feringa Building
Phase 2 is the second and final phase of the Feringa Building and has around 10,500 m2 of floor space. This final building section will house various practical laboratories and a clean room. SRON and the Kapteyn Institute will be housed here. Phase 2 is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027, after which the entire Feringa Building will be finished.
Construction and demolition work
Because the construction work is taking place next to buildings where people work and study, the work will be carried out with as little vibration and noise as possible. The contractor, building consortium Friso Koopmans, has special techniques for this purpose.
Meanwhile, firm Adex is continuing the demolition of 5117 and 5118. This is expected to be finished in autumn 2025.
