How is work progressing on the new floor in the Aletta Jacobshal?
From the beginning of February, people have been working day and night to make the last 'analogue' examination room in the Aletta Jacobshal suitable for digital exams. "So far, the work on Hall 1 is going well," Dick Damstra, project manager on behalf of the University of Groningen, says with satisfaction.
Ploughing through nights
"To minimise construction nuisance, contracting company Rottinghuis B.V. was able to remove the existing floor during the first four nights," Damstra explains. "Normally that causes quite a lot of inconvenience, but I don't think anyone noticed." Then, with the help of Homij Installatietechniek, the new floor was constructed, including underfloor heating and floor gutters for electricity and data cables.

Pouring the floor
From Monday 26 February, work started on pouring the new floor. This takes about four days. After that, the new floor can dry for about four weeks before finishing. "Meanwhile, we will continue working on the patch cabinets and the control rooms of the exam rooms, so that we will be really finished with the construction work before the end of April."
Digital exams from June
Once the structural part is completed, CIT will bring in the exam tables and start connecting them. From the second examination period in June 2024, the new exam facilities can be put into use.
