Energy Academy Europe

On 27 September 2017, the first 'Innovatie Award' will be awarded by 'The Technology of the Netherlands' of UNETO-VNI. The Energy Academy Europe at the Zernike Campus Groningen is one of ten nominees, which the University is very proud of.

Innovative and sustainable building

In the most sustainable educational building of the Netherlands, a special combination of energy-saving and energy-providing solutions has been implemented. A solar chimney combined with an underground labyrinth supplies natural ventilation. Together with the innovative heat pump (Carrier Aquaforce 30XW) and concrete core activation, this contributes to a comfortable indoor climate. The 1,600 solar panels on the roof are arranged in a special triangular setup around the windowns in the roof that allow daylight to reach far into the building. The sustainable measures together have ensured that this building has been awarded a BREAAM 'Outstanding' certificate.
