About us Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences Psychology Education Buddy project GMW

Being a buddy

What does it mean?

Being a buddy means that you meet with your international student once a week for a period of 3 months. You provide information on a wide range of topics and answer questions and help your international student to get used to the new environment and to build up his or her own network. You help your international student to get used to the new environment and to build up your own network. You give practical tips and point out activities and organisations that can be fun and/or useful.

But it also has to click a bit, doesn't it?

Buddies and internationals are preferably linked on the basis of common hobbies. This way there is a good chance that there is a good basis for a good buddy relationship.

Benefits

Contributing to a good start for your fellow student is rewarding in itself. The faculty buddy certificate will show that you gained practical skills in this project, and you will receive a certified awareness training. If you have already completed the training, for example because you already did it last year, you will receive a different offer.

In addition, you will get an insight into the experience of another international student thus broadening your perspective. And who knows, you might make new friends or lay the foundation for an international network.
