ZonMw grant awarded for FinFit 2.0: integrated financial support in mental health care

Janneke Koerts and colleagues have received a ZonMw grant for the project FinFit 2.0: Towards integrated financial support in mental health care. The project aims to improve and structurally embed financial support for people with mental health conditions who face financial difficulties.
Nearly half of the Dutch population will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lives. This group is at significantly increased risk of financial insecurity and poverty, yet financial support is still insufficiently integrated into mental health care services. FinFit 2.0 seeks to address this gap.
In close collaboration with mental health care providers, financial support professionals of municipalities, public health services (GGD) and experts by experience, an intervention will be developed that enables early identification of financial problems and offers appropriate financial support next to ongoing mental health treatment. A pilot study will assess the feasibility, sustainability and potential effectiveness of this approach.
The project aims to improve both mental and financial well-being, strengthen collaboration between mental health care and the social domain, and contribute to more equal opportunities for people with mental health conditions.
From BSS, the following researchers are involved in addition to Janneke Koerts: Josephien Jansen, Marieke Pijnenborg, and Stynke Castelein.
