How to apply for the master’s degree in Psychology

You can apply for the master’s degree in Psychology via this page. An overview of all master’s tracks and related information can be found on the homepage for the master’s degree in Psychology.

Checklist before applying:

  1. Before you apply, check whether you satisfy all the admission requirements and criteria.
  2. You can apply between 15 August and 1 October/15 November (depending on your chosen track) for the start of the master's degree in February 2025.
  3. Choose your preferred master’s track carefully, as you can only graduate in one mastertrack. Once you are assigned to a track, you cannot switch to another one, either before or during the program. We also advise against discontinuing your current track to apply for a different one, as you would not be permitted to begin a new skills course, thesis, or internship in the new track if you have already started these. This would mean that you cannot graduate in that track.

  4. You can apply before you complete your bachelor's degree, but must have obtained your Bachelor’s degree before the start of the master's programme.

How to apply depends on your prior degree:

  2. Use one of the following application forms to apply with the University of Groningen. If you want, you can indicate a second choice of track via this form.

You will be admitted to the Master’s degree programme upon completion of this programme (in principle within one year). The pre-Master’s programme only starts in September and there are a limited number of places available.

  4. Upload this filled in checklist in the Progress Portal. Carefully read the instructions. Make sure that you satisfy all requirements and provide all information requested as clearly as possible in order to avoid possible disappointment or ‘desk rejection’.
Check here for an example of a completed checklist.

Please note

  • Make sure you make a well-considered choice, because you can only graduate in one master’s track. Once you have been placed in a track, you cannot switch to another track before the start or during the master's program. We also advise against quitting a track and applying for another one later. You are not allowed to start a new skills course, thesis or internship in the new track if you have already started it in the previous track. This means you will not be able to graduate from the new track.
  • We strongly recommend that students from outside the EU/EEA submit their applications more than a month before the deadline. This will provide enough time to arrange or extend your visa and plan your trip if you need to participate in the selection test.
