The new academic year is just around the corner, time to celebrate this fresh start! Have you just started at the University of Groningen and are you already interested in what the Faculty of BSS has to offer beyond your own program? Have you been here for a while and want to expand your network with students from other programs?

Then come to the Academic New Year’s Celebration on Tuesday 1 September! Listen to interesting talks on various topics and meet students from all programs at the student association event in the Hortus.

You can also enjoy an ice cream in the Hortus garden that afternoon!

You don’t need to register for the talks, but be sure to arrive early—space is limited.

When? Tuesday 1 September, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Where? Munting Building and Hortus garden
Who? All BSS students

Before you start (to-do list)

After you have completed your registration (tuition payment arranged, photo uploaded for your student card), you will receive your student card and statement of enrollment.

If you have not yet completed your registration, please check the registration procedure (for non-Dutch qualification) to see which steps you still need to complete.

For a good start in September, go through the following steps:

Visit the Student Portal

In the Student Portal you will find all the information related to your studies. Explanation about the Student Portal can be found on the tutorial page.

Check your schedule

During the study start week, there are introduction lectures. We expect you to attend these because important information about the study will be provided.

On the tutorial page, you will find instructions on how to access the correct schedule information.

Introduction period: Diesweek

Every year at the end of August, the study association VIP organizes a three-day introduction period for incoming Psychology students, the Diesweek. Mostly first-year students attend the Diesweek, but new master's students can also participate. The days take place in Groningen and are intended to help you get to know your fellow students, the city, and VIP as a study association. You will be grouped with fellow students, and the program will be filled with fun activities to get to know each other better.

Introductory Camp

Every year at the beginning of September, VIP organizes an introductory camp to the Dutch Wadden island Ameland. We call this the Dieskamp. The camp is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow students through various fun activities.

Participation in the Diesweek and introduction camp is not part of the mandatory introduction activities.
