Course selection

Only students who were nominated by their home university and who have successfully applied for the exchange programme at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences are supposed to follow the steps below!

In order to select your courses please use the course selection form and follow the instructions below.

Students who will follow the exchange progamme at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences should send the completed and signed course selection form (PDF or Word format) to the Mobility Office via e-mail ( before the relevant deadline:

Autumn semester/ full year 15th July
Spring semester 15th November

Step-by-Step guide

Step 1:

Go to Ocasys and look for courses you would like to follow.
Take the information in the submenu 'Course offer' into account when making your choice!

Step 2:

Select your courses. In addition, please choose at least three backup courses just in case you cannot be admitted to one or more of your preferred courses.

Make sure you select courses from the right semester:

  • Semester 1 (= block 1a + 1b) = autumn semester
  • Semester 2 (= block 2a + 2b) = spring semester

A normal workload corresponds to 15 ECTS per block/ 30 ECTS per semester/ 60 ECTS per year. 15 ECTS per block correspond to 40 hours of work per week (incl. self-study). Students often underestimate the workload and should therefore not opt for more than 15 ECTS per block (exceptions may only be granted in urgent cases).

Note: The majority of course units a student selects per semester must be given at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences!

Step 3:

Once you have selected your courses, enter them in the schedule generator to see if the lectures or exams overlap (information available as of July/ November). This can occur if you choose courses from different years and/ or faculties.

Should any of your exams overlap, please note that there is only one solution:
Upon arrival in Groningen, deregister from the exam of one of the two courses and register for the resit > the resit will then be your first and only try !

Lectures usually finish 15 minutes prior to the full hour - this gives you 15 minutes to switch locations in case the following lecture starts directly afterwards.

Step 4:

Please make sure your course selection is approved by the responsible person (coordinator, exam committee or similar) at your home university!! If this is the case, enter all course information in the course selection form and sign it.

Step 5:

Send your course selection form (PDF format) via email to the Mobility Office BSS before the relevant deadline (see further above).

Erasmus+ students only:

We will sign your Learning Agreement once your course selection is approved. You may send your (Online) Learning Agreement to the Mobility Office of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences:

Erasmus code: NL Groning01

Please note that you have to use our course selection form in order to be registered for the courses you select!

Step 6:

Students will hear back from the Mobility Office within 1-2 weeks after submitting their course selection form.

If the course selection is fully approved, we will sign your form and return it to you via email. If changes need to be made, we will inform you about this.

Upon approval of your course selection, the Mobility Office of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences will enrol you for the courses and exams.
The Mobility Office also handles the enrolment procedure for courses given at other faculties. In such cases, we contact the exchange office at the relevant faculty to check the availability of your desired course.
> Please do not try to enrol yourself for any courses or exams!
