Selection procedure

Step 1: Select your courses

Choose courses from the lists on this page. Make sure that the courses you choose will be accepted by your home university and take into account the following:

  • Read the course descriptions and prerequisites; they can be found in the online catalogue Ocasys (switch to English and the correct academic year at the top right of the main page)

  • Decide the number of credits you have to take. The minimum depends on the requirements of your home university. Make sure you select a maximum of 3 courses per block from the correct semester:

Semester 1 (= block 1a + 1b) = autumn semester

Semester 2 (= block 2a + 2b) = spring semester

Always choose extra courses as back up. The standard workload for a semester in the ECT system is 30 ECTS

  • Check the semesters and blocks. Many courses are only taught in one block of the semester, and some courses are taught throughout both blocks of a semester. Try to spread the workload evenly over both blocks, approximately 15 ECTS per block.

Step 2: Fill in course selection form

Please make sure your course selection is approved by the responsible person (coordinator, exam committee or similar) at your home university! If this is the case, you need to fill out the course selection form and send it to exchange.gmw rug.nl. As changes due to timetable overlap etc. may occur, we ask you to choose a few back-up courses.

Step 3: Send course selection form to Mobility Office

The Mobility Office will assess your course selections. If you have requested courses given at other faculties, the Mobility Office will contact the relevant faculty for approval. After we have approved them, we will send you an email explaining how to enter all courses in our Mobility Online system.

Timetable

Timetables will become available via the schedule generator. Once you have selected your courses, please enter them in the schedule generator to see if the lectures or exams overlap (information available as of July/ November). This can occur if you choose courses from different years and/ or faculties.

A course may have different seminar group times (you will see gr. 1, gr. 2, gr. 3 etc. in the schedule), in which case you only need to attend one of those group times each week.

Course enrolment

Upon approval of your course selection, the Mobility Office of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences will enrol you for the courses and exams.
The Mobility Office also handles the enrolment procedure for courses given at other faculties. In such cases, we contact the exchange office at the relevant faculty to check the availability of your desired course.

> Please do not try to enrol yourself for any courses or exams!

You will have to take care of seminar group registrations yourself via the course in Brightspace.

Changes to course selection

It is possible to make changes to your course selection until the first week of each block. This rule applies to the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and can be different at other faculties!

Adding or dropping courses that are considered general lectures is usually unproblematic. However, if a course involves group work and/ or in case only a limited amount of students may participate in the relevant course, it might not be possible to join belatedly. Also, keep in mind that joining a group assignment or being admitted to a course that only allows for a limited amount of students to participate means that you should be committed.
