Reception History of the Bible

Prof. Dr J.T.A.G.M. (Jacques) van Ruiten is Professor by Special Appointment in the Reception History of the Bible on behalf of the Groningen University Fund (GUF).

Religion and Mental Health, in particular the domain of Spiritual Care

Prof. T.H. Zock is professor by special appointment in Religion and Mental Health, in particular the domain of Spiritual Care. This chair is established on behalf of the KSGV (Study Centre for Religion and Mental Health) with the support of the VVP (Association of Liberal Protestants in the Netherlands) .

With this chair the KSGV seeks to further its aim, which is to promote a spiritually healthy approach to religion and meaning.

Board of Professors by Special Appointment

The College van Bijzonder Hoogleraren [the Board of Professors by Special Appointment] is made up of representatives of the various religious denominations. The differences are not ignored, but valued.

Alongside the individual activities of the various members, the board jointly organizes an autumn conference and a related in-depth course on a current theological theme with direct relevance for church practice.

Liberal Theology

The Association of Liberal Protestants (VVP), a movement for contemporary faith, has established a chair by special appointment in Liberal Theology: development and continuing influence from the nineteenth century to the present. The chair is held by Prof. H.S. Benjamins.

The purpose of the chair is to acquire more in-depth knowledge of the tradition of liberal theology and to bring this theology up to date in such a way that enables it, in the current context of church, culture and science, to offer relevant perspectives on contemporary belief.

Protestant Church, Theology, and Culture

The chair by special appointment in Protestant Church, Theology and Culture was established in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at Groningen at the initiative of the ecclesiastical community The chair aims to uphold the links between the Faculty and the ecclesiastical region. The chair is held by Prof. W.H (Wouter) Slob , who in addition to this professorship is also a lecturer and a minister at the ‘Laarkerk’ in Zuidlaren. In his teaching and research, Prof. Slob constantly seeks the common ground between theology and philosophy, with particular attention to developments in contemporary ecclesiastical practice.

Secularization Studies

Prof. H.J. Paul is Professor by Special Appointment in Secularization Studies. The chair has been established by the IZB and the GZB, two missionary organizations in the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, and aims to reflect on the perception and representation of secularization in Western Europe in particular.

Systematic Theology and Church in the 21st Century

Prof. Edward van ’t Slot is Professor of Systematic Theology and Church in the 21st Century, a chair sponsored by the Confessionele Vereniging (CV).

Christian Philosophy

Prof. Jeroen de Ridder is Professor by special appointment of Christian Philosophy on behalf of the Stichting voor Christelijke Filosofie (Foundation for Christian Philosophy).
