Gender, religion and secularity: European contestations

When:Fr 10-03-2023 09:15 - 13:00
Where:Oude Boteringestraat 38 - Court Room

On International Women’s Day, advances in gender equality are celebrated, and attention is sought for the issues that still need to be addressed. Yet, the exact ways gender equality and sexual freedoms should take shape in practice are subject to continuous contestations. Religious and secular actors, values, and practices play different roles that deserve further examination. In the symposium, several invited speakers will share insights from their research on gender secularity and religion from a variety of perspectives: research on anti-gender movements, women in polygamous marriages and on religious activists for gender equality. How are the contestations and contradictions addressed by researchers? How do they intervene in such contestations?
