2nd Groningen - Leuven encounter on the Dead Sea Scrolls

After our successful pioneering meeting last year, we are now pleased to invite you to join the second meeting of the Groningen Leuven network of the Dead Sea Scrolls. This will take place on June 18th in Groningen, the Netherlands. These meetings are intended in the first place as informal gatherings. Our main aim is to foster scholarly collaboration, and to discuss recent developments in the field. The meetings are intended for both experienced and beginning scholars, but we also welcome graduate students working on the Scrolls or related literature.

The theme of our next meeting is caves and collections by which we aim at deepening our understanding of the classification addressed in our meeting last 2012. The programme contains an introductory lecture by Mladen Popovi?, which will be followed by a workshop that will allow the participants to engage more closely with various questions that the collection preserved in the 11 caves pose. After the lunch break we will hear two papers offered by PhD candidates of the network Myles Schoonover and Brry Hartog. The meeting will finish by 4 pm. After the meeting the participants are cordially invited to follow the Groningen Faculty Research Colloquium lecture of Prof. Albert Baumgarten: Eclecticism as a Method.

The meeting being of an informal nature, we are unfortunately not able to compensate for any costs. However, we will gladly assist you in preparing your travel to Groningen and finding accommodation. For any question concerning the programme or registration, please contact one of the organizers of the meeting, Brry Hartog ( Please register by June 10th. Should you require assistance concerning the travel arrangements, please contact our local organizer Eelco Glas (
