WISE Award

We are delighted to announce the “WISE Award for Advancing Women in Science and Engineering”. Its purpose is to celebrate colleagues whose sustained leadership, creativity, or advocacy measurably improves the participation, experience, and success of women across our Faculty, while also showcasing best practices that can inspire the wider community.

Any member of staff—academic, technical, administrative, or support—at any career stage will be eligible for nomination. Nominations may be submitted by other staff (self-nominations are excluded) and should demonstrate mentoring or sponsorship of women, promotion of inclusive policies or infrastructure, initiatives that raise the visibility of women in STEM, or comparable achievements with clear impact. A short statement of approximately 250 words will be collected through this Google Form, which will be open from 1 to 31 July 2025.

All current members of the WISE Board will serve as the judging panel, excluding themselves from the decision-making process in cases of conflict of interest. After independent scoring in August and early September, the Board will agree a short list and select one recipient. The winner will be announced during the Hot Topics event in the final week of September 2025.

The prize will consist of a €100 honorarium from the existing WISE budget.

Women in FSE event

Women in FSE 2024 took place on the 18th November. The event, organized by tenure-track assistant professors at ENTEG, Bahar Haghighat and Dulce M. Morales, and sponsored by WISE and FSE, consisted of two panel discussions and a brainstorm session with the aim of identifying measures that can be implemented or improved to support female students and staff at FSE.

The panelists included Jacquelien Scherpen, Anastasia Borschevsky, Sabeth Verpoorte, Anouk Lubbe, Rachel van der Kaaij, Marzia Nuzzolo, Laura Comprido, and Annerieke de Vos, with the discussions being moderated by Elisabetta Chicca, Petra Rudolf and Eva Teuling. An afternoon of open and constructive conversations led to a collection of ideas to be presented to the faculty board in a report to inform actions and policies promoting equality and diversity.
