Title: Engineered Discovery in Space Research
Abstract: The discovery process in science can be unpredictable and serendipitous, but it is rarely accidental. Some of the most important scientific discoveries, such as the recent detection of gravitational waves for example, take decades of preparation and technological innovation. At SRON, our mission is to enable scientific discovery in international space research through a combination of fundamental science, pioneering technology, and advanced instrumentation development. We work with the community to identify the important questions in space research and then develop the technologies and instruments needed to answer them. In this presentation, I will highlight some of our ongoing activities at SRON and the crucial role our technology and engineering programs play in ensuring the next generation of scientific discovery.
