Study Association
A study association is an organization run by a team of students from the respective bachelor’s and master’s degree programme(s). The FSE study associations organize many activities for students, including introductory camps and monthly “borrels” (informal social gatherings, often with drinks), but also more serious events such as company visits or conferences. Study associations differ from the general student associations where the degree programme is irrelevant. And study associations do not have hazing rituals.
FMF
Welcome to FMF, the (Applied) Mathematics and Physics study association! We are a very diverse and friendly community and we’re open to members from across the FSE. Whatever your interest is, there is often someone around who shares it! In our cozy members' room (located in the Feringa Building), students like to grab a coffee while working on their homework, studying or chatting. If you have any questions about your courses, there’s almost always someone in the room who can help you!
The entire association is run by enthusiastic students, who, as part of different committees, organize social, educational and career events. From the annual mathematics and physics symposia to the study-aiding activities (such as practice and catch-up sessions for exams), we make sure to broaden your scientific horizons. On the social end, we host regular board games evening, the LAN-party, or gather together for a drink during “kamerborrels”. Perhaps one of our favorite events is the foreign excursion we organize every year, to places such as Lund, Vienna or Copenhagen, where we visit various research institutes and universities. Our magazine, “Periodiek”, showcases our members’ writing skills, interviews with professors or even coffee statistics! Career events are also one of our top priorities, from company excursions to the yearly Math and Physics Alumni Seminars, where you have the occasion to learn more about future career opportunities!
If any of these sounds interesting to you, consider joining one of our committees, or explore more during the committee market, which we organize each fall. And if you wanna be up to date about our activities, keep an eye on the calendar on our website or check out pictures from different events on Flickr and Instagram. We are excited to meet you in September!
