1. Admission
Am I admissible?
Holders of the following Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Groningen will directly be admitted to the Master’s degree programme:
● (Applied) Mathematics
● Astronomy (with minor: Instrumentation and Informatics)
● Industrial Engineering and Management
● Chemical Engineering
Holders of the following Bachelor’s degrees from universities in the Netherlands will directly be admitted to the Master’s degree programme:
● Aerospace Engineering
● Mechanical Engineering
● Electrical Engineering
Please check the admission and/or entry requirements in the Teaching and Examination Regulations to see whether your Bachelor's degree grants admission to the Master's degree programme. If you have unconditional access to a non-selective Master's degree programme, you do not have to follow a special application procedure: you may simply register in Studielink for your Master's degree programme.
Holders of a comparable diploma (as determined by the admission board) from other universities are also admissible. They may request an individual admission decision. Students that enter the master’s degree programme in Systems and Control should have sufficient knowledge of mathematics, basic control theory and engineering, as well as a minimal level of English. You apply by submitting an admission request.
Pre-master
Are you currently enrolled in a Dutch (HBO) Bachelor’s programme and interested in one of our Bachelor’s programmes? A pre-master may be offered to students with a Dutch Bachelor’s degree who have covered some but not all key subjects in their own degree. Also, students with a relevant HBO degree are not directly admissible but can be offered a pre-master programme.
For some select HBO bachelor’s degrees it may be possible to enter the master programmes via a pre-master programme up to a maximum of 60 ECTS. After successful completion of this pre-master's programme you can start the master's programme in September.
Admission to the pre-master’s programme is granted on an individual basis by the Board of Admissions. The pre-master content is set on an individual basis by the Board of Admissions and depends on the knowledge obtained by the prospective student within the bachelor's programme.
You apply for a pre-master programme by submitting an admission request.
Fast-track (HBO)
A fast-track programme ('Doorstroomprogramma' in Dutch) is a study programme at the University of Groningen, that can be followed by an HBO-student as part of their HBO study programme. The programme is formally part of the HBO study programme, for example as elective course units or in the form of a minor programme. The goal of such a fast-track programme is to create a better connection between the bachelor and the master programme.
This programme is intended to be taken in the minor space of the HBO Bachelor Chemische Technologie or equivalent.
