1. Admission Procedure
Am I admissible?
Holders of the following Bachelor’s degrees are considered to have sufficient knowledge and skills and will be admitted to the Master’s degree programme in Biology on that basis:
● Holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Groningen or other Dutch research universities;
● Holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Life Science & Technology (curriculum from 2020/2021 onwards) from the University of Groningen on the basis of a Research project (15 EC) in the discipline of interest (major Ecology and Evolution, major Molecular Life Sciences)
For holders of another relevant academic Bachelor’s degree in life sciences there is an individual admission procedure, please do apply!
Pre-master
Are you currently enrolled in a Dutch (HBO) Bachelor’s programme and interested in one of our Master’s programmes? A Pre-master’s programme may be offered to students with a Dutch Bachelor’s degree who have covered some but not all key subjects in their own degree. Also, students with a relevant HBO degree are not directly admissible but can be offered a Pre-master’s programme.
Admission to the Pre-master’s programme is granted and the content is set on an individual basis by the Board of Admissions on the basis of the documents you supply and depends on the knowledge obtained in the Bachelor's programme.
The Board of Admissions will consider your application and when accepted, will assign you one of the two predetermined Pre-master’s programmes, which are listed in our online course catalogue Ocasys.
We offer predetermined Pre-Master’s programmes for access to the Master’s programme Biology for students with one of these HBO Bachelor programmes:
· Biology and Medical Laboratory Research (CROHO 34397)
· Biotechnology (CROHO 34331)
· Bioinformatics (CROHO 39215)
· (Applied) Biology (CROHO 30009)
· Environmental Management (CROHO 34859)
· Animal Management (CROHO 34333)
For HBO programmes not listed above, the Board of Admissions determines whether you can be admitted. In such cases, the content of the Pre-Master’s programme is individually tailored by the Board of Admissions and depends on the knowledge acquired during the HBO Bachelor’s programme. The content and number of ECTS of a Pre-master’s programme is depending on your background. If you are admitted, you will receive an admission letter outlining the content of your Pre-Master’s programme. A Pre-Master’s programme consists of course units, each carrying a credit value of 5 ECTS.
You can apply for a Pre-master's programme by submitting an admission request.
After successfully finishing the Pre-master’s programme you can start the Master’s programme in the following academic year.
