FEB Diversity Month 2026

This May, we invite you to be part of FEB Diversity Month, a celebration of the people, perspectives, and experiences that make our community unique! Through interactive events, engaging discussions, and cultural experiences, we will explore how inclusion, empathy, and awareness can shape a better academic and social environment for everyone.

Whether you are curious about different cultures, passionate about equity, or just looking to connect in a meaningful way, there's something for you. From food and games to workshops and thought-provoking conversations, every activity is designed to inspire, reflect, and connect.

Open to all FEB staff and students, we encourage you to participate in as many activities as you can fit into your schedule and help us in our collective effort to build a diverse and inclusive community.

Programme 2026

Week 1 | 4 May - 8 May

6 May | EBFxFEB International Fair

Date and time: Wednesday, 6 May, 12.00-16.30
Location: Duisenberg Plaza
For: Staff and students

On May 6th, we will organize the International Fair on campus, a large-scale and interactive event celebrating the cultural diversity within the FEB student community.

The event will take place on campus (e.g. Duisenberg Plaza) and will feature multiple stands hosted by students, associations, and international groups. Each stand will represent a different country or culture and may include traditional food, music, clothing, games, or small interactive activities.

The International Fair aims to create an engaging and accessible environment where students can experience and learn about different cultures, while also fostering interaction between Dutch and international students.

With a central location and an open setup, the event is expected to attract a large number of visitors throughout the day.

If you have any questions regarding the event, you can contact m.wiendels@ebfgroningen.nl

No need to sign up, just swing by when you can and enjoy the atmosphere!

On May 20th, we will organize Faces of Inclusion, an on-campus initiative aimed at highlighting diversity and inclusion within the FEB community.

During this activity, students will be invited to share their perspective on inclusion through a short personal quote. These reflections will be combined with portrait photos taken on campus, resulting in a visual exhibition that showcases the diverse backgrounds and experiences within our faculty.

The exhibition will be displayed in a central location within the Duisenburg Plaza.

Participation will be low-threshold, as a photographer and interviewer will approach students on campus in the beginning of May.

If you have any questions regarding the event, you can contact m.wiendels@ebfgroningen.nl

This interactive evening lecture is organised in early support of Orange the World and explores the parallels between everyday power dynamics and violence in (romantic) relationships. The session combines a lecture format with interactive elements, and will be delivered in English.

Violence and dependency relationships extend far beyond romantic contexts -  this session invites you to reflect on what these dynamics look like in everyday life, and what you can do at a micro level to make a difference.

28 May | First Gen Community - Peer Networking for 2nd and 3rd-year students

Date and time:  Wednesday, 28 May 2026, 11.30 – 13.00
Location: Career Services Room
Audience:  Students (2nd and 3rd year)
Facilitators:  Evelien Wolthuis & Ella Sebamalai

Do you have different explanations about your studies between your uni friend group and ‘ at home’? Would you say you feel you have to prove you’re great at uni because you’re the first to pursue a degree in your family? You’re welcome to engage in an empowering, peer-to-peer networking session for students who are the first in their family to attend university.

This session brings together 2nd and 3rd-year students to reflect on their university journeys, including moments where they may have experienced a sense of disconnection or challenge. Through these reflections, they will share insights on what has supported their success and sense of belonging, or what could be done to better support future students.

The aim is to gather these lived experiences in order to better support and guide incoming first-year students as well as foster community for the years after. The session focuses on community-building, practical experience-sharing, and fostering a supportive network among first generation students.

28 May | "Student Collaboration in Your Classroom" - Workshop for FEB Lecturers

Date and time:  Wednesday, 28 May 2026, 15.00 – 16.30
Location: 5419.0105 Kapteynborg
Audience:  FEB Lecturers
Contact:  Evelien Wolthuis & Fenna Wolthuis (CS/EQ)

Why do some students hold back from participating, asking questions, or engaging with each other? And why does group work sometimes fall flat, even when you've set it up carefully?

In this interactive 1.5-hour workshop, we explore how collaboration in your classroom - both between you and your students, and among students themselves - shapes engagement and learning. Working with short, recognisable scenarios, you will exchange experiences with colleagues and reflect on your own role as a teacher.

You will gain insight into how your (non-verbal) behaviour and everyday choices influence student participation and sense of belonging, often in subtle but powerful ways. You will leave with practical ideas to create a more active, inclusive learning environment - without adding to your workload.
