Student initiatives 2026

The University of Groningen encourages student well-being activities organised by and for students, by providing an annual grant. The initiatives listed below were partly made possible by this grant in 2026 and each address the theme of student well-being in their own way!



Yoga workshop

G.S.D.V. AtaXia
6 March 2026

A yoga workshop that explores new breathing techniques and helps you improve your physical and mental health. Open to all University of Groningen students.



VIDUN Dinner

VIP and GLV Idun
13 April 2026

A shared dinner at Tuin in de Stad to encourage interaction between students from both programmes and help strengthen connections across the life sciences community.



SOG Conference

Studenten Organisatie Groningen (SOG)
1 May 2026

This conference explores “Global conflict and its impact on student wellbeing,” featuring speakers who share both professional and personal perspectives. It examines conflicts of different scales and their effects on students’ mental health to provide a comprehensive overview of the issue.



De COKE SHOW

Albertus Magnus en Contractus
11 en 12 mei 2026

An interactive experimental theatre piece that confronts students, in a direct and relatable way, with the normalisation of alcohol and drug use within student culture.



Well-being Week Open Kaart

Vindicat atque Polit
11–13 May 2026

A well-being week for all students in Groningen. Each day focuses on a different theme related to mental well-being, with a programme comprising a mix of workshops, talks and accessible activities, organised in collaboration with organisations and inspiring speakers.



Satva - Mind, Movement & Meaning

Groningen Indian Student Association (GISA)
26–28 May 2026

A three-day structured wellness series open to all UG students inspired by “Satva,” meaning balance and clarity. Includes guided yoga, Indian dance-based movement, and creative art workshops.



Human Design Workshop 

Nobis Cura Futuri

A workshop where students used their own Human Design Chart to gain insight into their personality. While creating drawings about aspects of their identity, guided by tips and interpretations, they discovered new perspectives on their strengths and weaknesses.



The SICest Fair!

Study Association Clio

A fair to build community, featuring origami and watercolor activities where students can relax, create art, and connect with peers in a calming, creative environment.



JFV Padeltoernooi

JFV Groningen

A joint padel tournament, preceded by a talk by Associate Professor Berend Roorda on his sporting career and mental resilience.



Healthy Mind, Healthy Miles

Najaar 2026

With “Healthy Mind, Healthy Miles”, we’re kicking off the autumn season with workshops on mental well-being, sport, mindfulness and nutrition. We combine the workshops with relaxed running sessions where participants can chat and build connections whilst on the move.



Working Group Mental Health

ODIOM

The Mental Health Working Group organises three events a year for all students at the BSS Faculty, with a focus on social connection and mental wellbeing. This year, they are organising a games break at the faculty, a pub quiz and a kubb tournament.



Podcast Open Kaart

Albertus Magnus

This podcast series focuses on student wellbeing and all the challenges students face in their daily lives. The episodes explore topics relevant to student life, such as mental pressure, making choices and finding a balance.



Are you (still) okay?

Stichting KEI in collaboration with the major student organisations

An awareness campaign aimed at students about (sexually) inappropriate behaviour and its long-term impact on a person’s well-being. We want to show how important it is to continue looking out for one another, even after the situation has passed.
