Eligible candidates:
  • are doctoral students from outside Finland of all nationalities;
  • have been in Finland for a maximum of one year before applying for the fellowship;
  • are starting work on a doctoral research project if the whole doctoral thesis will be completed in a Finnish university;
  • are completing a Double Degree in Finland.
Grant information:

Purposes: initial funding for completing a doctoral research project in Finland, completion of a Double Degree or a study visit on exceptionally compelling reasons

Programmes: Double Degree PhD in all fields of study

  • The EDUFI Fellowship is intended for a doctoral student from outside Finland.
  • The fellowship can be applied for an initial funding for completing a doctoral research project in Finland, completion of a Double Degree or a study visit.
  • The EDUFI Fellowship is available to all foreign nationals and all fields of study.
  • The duration of the fellowship can be from 3 to 12 months, and in case of a visit, from 3 to 6 months.
  • The grant is 1.500 EUR/month.
  • The grant is intended to cover the living costs of the fellow in Finland; no payments for separate accommodation costs or contributions to travel, visa, residence permit or insurance costs.

  • The application period is continuous.
  • The application should be submitted at least five months before the planned start of the fellowship.
Application:

The fellows cannot apply for the EDUFI Fellowship themselves, because the grant will be awarded only to a Finnish university department. Instead, a Finnish university representative must apply for the fellowship for the fellow.

  • Fellows will need the following documents for their visa/residence permit application
  • a copy of the EDUFI fellowship decision
