Courageous Conversation: intercultural communication on the workfloor

Thursday 22 February, 10.00 - 13.00 hours, online

Do you want to improve your intercultural communication skills?

The UG PhD community is characterised by a multitude of cultural and academic backgrounds that shape our every-day lives. From informal encounters at the coffee machine to formal interactions with peers and supervisors, intercultural communication is an important part of our experience. This creates opportunities - many of us are drawn to academia to learn and expand our horizons - and challenges: how can we ensure a safe working environment for ourselves and our colleagues? How can we have courageous conversations about boundaries and shared learning, about power and transgression, about acceptance and limits?

To start this conversation, the Federation Graduate Schools Social Sciences and Humanities offers an interactive workshop about intercultural communication in the context of the (UG) workfloor . During this session we aim to create awareness for this topic, showcase the options our university offers, and answer any questions.

We will open with a short presentation by prof.dr Gerry Wakker, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer of the UG, followed by an interactive panel discussion with colleagues from inside and outside Academia and a special guest from the University of Macquarie:
