Philosophy of Nature

An introduction to nature’s complexity through interdisciplinary activities and storytelling that foster appreciation of its beauty in the Economics lounge and room 0108 of the Academy Building!

This year's Philosophy of Nature Atelier will introduce you to the interdisciplinary complexities of nature. On the one hand, we will focus on two central elements of nature, these being landscapes and plants, while offering different ways through which one can learn how to appreciate the beauty found within nature, as for example, through storytelling. By combining theories, frameworks and experiences we have had in our Summer School at Drenthe, Netherlands, we aim to give an insight into how modern and past philosophers viewed nature, how history influenced their ideologies, and how philosophical views have evolved in time. Along this line of reasoning, one will also be able to immerse themselves in our findings and disconnect from the complexities of modern society by taking the Beauty of Nature Survey, having a look at the handcrafted Physical Guidebook of Dutch Plants and by listening to several storytelling sessions.
