Preparatory Pathways
Do you not yet meet the admission requirements for a bachelor's degree programme at the University of Groningen? Depending on your educational background, there are several options available to help you prepare for higher education.
Preparatory Year
The Preparatory Year (Voorbereidend Jaar, VBJ) offered by Alfa-college is designed for highly educated non-native Dutch speakers, such as refugees and holders of refugee status, who wish to continue their studies in higher education in Groningen. During this programme, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed for a successful start at a university of applied sciences or a research university. In addition, you may be able to complete any missing subjects or obtain the certificates required for admission to a bachelor's degree programme.

Altius Foundation Year (Faculty of Science and Engineering)
Are you interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), but do you not yet meet all the admission requirements? Altius Groningen may offer a suitable pathway.
This preparatory programme helps students develop the academic skills and subject-specific knowledge needed for a successful start in an FSE bachelor's programme. It is specifically designed for programmes within Science & Engineering and prepares students for the required knowledge in areas such as mathematics and the natural sciences.
After successfully completing the programme, students may, depending on their results and the specific programme requirements, progress to a bachelor's degree programme within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
