Admission requirements 2024/2025

Great that you have decided to apply for the BSc Global Responsibility & Leadership!

Since GRL is a small-scale, intensive bachelor degree, there are a few steps that you should keep in mind when applying. Find all the necessary information on these pages, or contact our Admissions team via ucf-grl rug.nl or +31 (0)6 15 54 84 41!

This page contains information about the secondary school diploma and English language requirements you need to meet in order to apply. For more information about the application and selection procedure, please visit the relevant page.

The Early Bird application deadline is 15 January 2025 and the final application deadline is 1 June 2025. The faster you apply, the sooner you will hear back from us: we aim to inform you of your status within 4 to 8 weeks after you completed your application. Apply early!

There are two important admission requirements: your secondary school diploma and your English language proficiency.

Please note: as of 2023, Maths A or B (or their international equivalent) is no longer a requirement for this programme.

1. Secondary School Diploma


You are required to have successfully obtained a secondary school diploma which allows entry to an academic university. Therefore, you need to obtain a Dutch VWO diploma or an international equivalent. It is also possible to apply with a Dutch HBO (University of Applied Sciences) propedeuse or a colloquium doctum.


2. English requirements

As the GRL programme is fully taught and assessed in English, students are required to demonstrate their English skills when applying.

You are exempt from proving your English proficiency if you...
Are a native speaker and have completed your entire secondary education in one of the following countries: USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia or Canada (English secondary education)
Have already completed an entire Bachelor's degree programme in one of the following countries: USA, UK, Ireland, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, or Canada (English secondary education)
Scored a minimum final grade of 7 for English on a Dutch VWO diploma
Obtained a Dutch HBO Propaedeutic diploma taught and assessed in English
Obtain(ed) an International Baccalaureate diploma, with English as the medium of instruction
Obtain(ed) an European Baccalaureate diploma from a European School or one of the Accredited European Schools and have (completed) English as final exam subject as L1 or L2
Scored a minimum final grade of 10 for the English course at Leistungskurs (LK) / erhörtere Anforderingsniveau (eA) for the German Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife
Apply with at least 3 GCE A2-level certificates from an accredited British examination board
Obtain(ed) the French Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) section Britannique / Anglais
Obtain(ed) the South African National Senior certificate with IEB Advanced Programme certificate in English with 55% or more.

If you do not fall under one of the exemptions, you are required to complete an English language test.

Validity of tests


Keep in mind that TOEFL and IELTS certificates are only valid for 2 years. Cambridge certificates have unlimited validity.

* TOEFL MyBest Scores are not considered in the Admissions procedure.
** We do not accept IELTS Online certificates.

In case you haven't taken one of our accepted English tests yet, or think this is not necessary for you, then please indicate this with your online application. In case it is required for you to take one of our accepted English tests, you will be informed about this by the Admissions Office.
