Department: Language, Technology & Culture

The Language, Technology & Culture Department has two themes across our research and education:

  1. Speech technology for small languages.
  2. Multilingualism and minoritized languages

The LTC Department is a hub of innovative research, education, and social outreach.

Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary
Our research is characterized by its interdisciplinary nature, involving expertise from various domains and fostering cooperation among PhD students and researchers across shared themes. Emphasizing a transdisciplinary approach, we bridge the gap between academia and the private sector, encouraging collaboration beyond academic circles.

Creating positive regional and societal impacts
We are dedicated to creating positive regional and societal impacts not only through traditional academic channels but also via patents, grants, and community engagement.

Bridging Academic and Private Sectors
We view academics as public servants, focusing on making our work accessible to society through popular articles and public outreach, thereby breaking the barriers of the proverbial ivory tower. Relatedly, we believe that academic knowledge should be freely available, aligning with our mission to democratize knowledge access.

Promoting Accessible and Inclusive Research
In line with this philosophy, we also prioritize using open-source tools in our research activities, underscoring our commitment to public ownership of scientific research and reducing reliance on for-profit industries. Our approach is not just about conducting research; it's about doing so ethically, responsibly, and inclusively, making a tangible impact in the academic community and society at large.
