Invitation: Opening Academic Year RUG/ Campus Fryslân 2026 - 2027
The Opening Academic Year 2026 - 2027 of the Faculty Campus Fryslân will take place on Thursday 3 September 2026 from 3:45 - 5:30 p.m. in the Beurs in Leeuwarden.
Programme
The program features several speeches and musical interludes. The festive opening will conclude with a reception.
The program will be opened by Dean Prof. Tjalling Halbertsma and Vice Dean Dr Indira van der Zande.

The keynote lecture by professor Sandra Phlippen:
Climate action in a fragmented world
In this keynote professor Phlippen - also head of climate strategy at ABN AMRO bank - will talk about the impact of global fragmentation on achieving net zero emissions. Despite many hurdles, the are impactful and concrete steps to take.
Professor Sandra Phlippen is also affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, where she holds the Chair in Sustainable Banking (NVB).

The program will be interspersed with the recitation of a special poem and a performance by the University of Groningen’s resident poet, Hannan van Rooij.
Note: The entire program will be in English.
Academic walk
Prior to the ceremony, there is, as is tradition, an academic walk of the professors of the UG. The academic walk proceeds from the Town hall (Raadhuisplein) toward the Beurs (Wirdumerdijk). The academic walk will depart around 3:30 p.m. from the Town hall.
