About studying in Groningen

Groningen is the city where the world meets. It is characterized by a large international student population who are attracted by the academic excellence and diverse community of the University of Groningen. Besides studying, I had the opportunity to learn from different cultures and make friends from many countries around the world. Each one of my international friends was the ambassador of his/her country and I was able to experience her/his culture by preparing international dinners, travelling together, or having a beer. Besides enriching each other’s lives, I made friends for a life-time. My time in Groningen was definitively one the best experiences in my life. If I had to choose again the location for my master program, I would still choose Groningen!

Gloria Chan is a citizen of the world. Born and raised in Santa Marta Colombia, Gloria moved to the Los Angeles, California after finishing high school in her home country. Eager to learn more about the world, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Development Studies at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). During her studies, she was awarded the UCLA Undergraduate Research Scholars Scholarship in recognition of her strong commitment to academic research, as well as the completion a comprehensive research project.

A strong desire to explore her Chinese heritage motivated her to join UCLA’s Education Abroad Program in Beijing where she studied Chinese Language and Culture at Beijing Normal University for one year. Upon returning to Los Angeles, she began working at an international company where her interests in business management developed. For this reason, she decided to pursue a Master degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Strategic Innovation Management at the University of Groningen. In addition, she engaged in several extracurricular activities such as becoming a board member for the Strategic Innovation Management Master Community, an active member of ESN Groningen, as well as an International Alumni Ambassador for the University of Groningen.

Gloria is always enthusiastic to share her international experiences with fellow and prospective students who are interested in developing a broader perspective of the world as well as knowing what it is like to be an international student at the University of Groningen.
