Jelle Brandt Corstius, Alumnus of the Year 2010

Jelle Brandt Corstius received the University of Groningen 2010 Alumnus of the Year award. The journalist, correspondent and TV producer received a work of art from Rector Magnificus and jury chairman Frans Zwarts as token of appreciation for his extraordinary contributions to society.

Travelling historian

Jelle Brandt Corstius graduated in journalism and history at the University of Groningen in 2004. In his work he has proven to be a travelling historian who can shed panoptic light on contemporary developments in the countries he visits. He manages to do so in characteristic fashion – candidly, with an eye for detail and a personal touch, treating his subjects with deep respect – which according to the jury should be applauded. He combines practising journalism in this fashion with his knowledge of the Russian language, culture and history.
