Fossil fuel and nuclear energy have caused a lot of damage over the last 60 years to the environment and public health in Russia. Russian energy companies are focusing predominantly on reducing CO2 emissions. But what is the potential of renewables and is it really close to zero, as the fossil fuel industry insists? Dr. Tatiana Mitrova addresses the topic from a policy point of view and provides insights in the state of the energy transition in the Russian Federation. She will also discuss other drivers that have repercussions for the pace of energy transition in Russia, and for Russian energy sector as a whole.
