Welcome to Groningen! We are committed to giving you all the support that you need during your introduction period at the University, and with your immigration process if you are moving from abroad. On your first day at work, you will be welcomed by your colleagues and manager. You will have plenty of time and opportunities to get to know your new colleagues and new place of work.

The Board of the University considers it important for newcomers at the University of Groningen to not only become acquainted with their direct working or learning environment but also to learn about the University’s vision and mission. As such, four times a year, the University organizes a Welcome! meeting for new staff members and PhD students in the form of an informal breakfast.

HR information

The HR Information Desk and the HR advisor involved with your appointment are also available to help you with any HR-related questions you might have. Are you a new international staff member? Then you will be invited by the HR Information Desk for an informative introductory meeting.

For new international staff

The staff at the Immigration Service Desk (ISD) are on hand to provide assistance to our international staff with their immigration process. They are specialized in Dutch immigration regulations and can help you apply for a visa or residence permit. You can also contact the ISD for practical information about, for example, living accommodation, medical care, insurance and University facilities.
