Virtual tour of cultural heritage site Palmyra
The (partly destroyed) archaeological treasures in Palmyra can now be admired by one and all in a virtual tour on the internet, with photos, texts and audio files. Archaeologist Lidewijde de Jong of the UG was closely involved in the preparations. De Jong conducted research for years in Palmyra, and hopes that this initiative will open up this special cultural heritage site to everyone. The tour is the brainchild of Izitravel, a Dutch travel platform on the web. Visitors to the site can look at photos of archaeological and historical sites and read the related information. (Video and tour were created before Palmyra was retaken from IS.)
