Googling in historical handwritten archives

Lambert Schomaker’s research group has developed the Monk system, which enables computers to recognize characters and pictures in historical texts. In this way historical texts from the National Archives, including handwritten ones, are being made available to the wider public.

The weekly online video magazine Unifocus highlights topics related to the University of Groningen in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
