A thousand Discovery trips
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences’ Discovery Truck has been crossing the Netherlands for eight years. The Discovery Truck is a laboratory on wheels that doubles as a classroom. The University uses it to visit schools where pupils are treated to experiments and classes to raise their interest in science. And it’s working: numbers of first-year science students have doubled and just recently the Discovery Truck paid its 1000th visit to a school. The Groningen gas company GasTerra became a partner two years ago. In conjunction with the University, their aim is to increase awareness about energy use and applications among the younger generation.
The weekly online video magazine Unifocus highlights topics related to the University of Groningen in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
