Japanese Ambassador visits Groningen
On Friday 15 September, the Japanese Ambassador to the Netherlands, HE Hiroshi Minami, was welcomed to the University of Groningen by President Prof. Jouke de Vries. The overall collaboration between Japanese universities and the UG was discussed with focus on increasing student exchange and PhD collaboration. In the conversation there was specific attention for the follow-up of the recent visit of Prof. de Vries to Osaka University and the road towards the World Expo 2025 in Japan.
After the meeting in the Academy Building, the delegation walked over to the House of Connections for a meeting with Prof. Lorenzo Squintani and Prof. Ming Cao, Directors of the Wubbo Ockels School and the Jantina Tammes School respectively. They explained the function of the House of Connections and the idea behind UG's Schools for Science and Society, with specific attention for energy, climate change, digital society and AI.
The Ambassador concluded his visit to the city with a lunch hosted by mayor Koen Schuiling at city hall.
