Visit Secretary General of the Guild

18 March 2022

On 9 March 2022, Prof. Jan Palmowski (Secretary General of The Guild) was at UG for a series of meetings with Executive Board members, the Committee of Deans, and policy advisors to discuss strategic topics for UG and The Guild. The Guild protects the interests of the University of Groningen and its other members in Brussels, with a focus on advocating the importance of (fundamental) research funding and policy.

During the visit, President Prof. Jouke de Vries emphasised the importance of linking UG's (cross border) regional ambitions to its wider European and global strategic goals. Throughout the day, a wide array of topics was discussed including: the Dutch context (eg. Recognition & Rewards, internationalisation, the new coalition agreement), the European Research and Education Area, Horizon Europe/Erasmus+, sustainability, energy transition, knowledge security, the European Universities initiative (incl. ENLIGHT), European collaboration with Africa, and the consequences of and responses to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.
