CIT Green Embassy
As the CIT Green Embassy, we are focused on raising awareness of sustainability among our colleagues through sharing information and organizing events. We are first working on unraveling the current situation at the CIT regarding sustainability. Eventually we would like to initiate and impact policies that move towards making our work environment greener. We think that the CIT plays a special role in a sustainable university because of the large IT dependency and the role IT can play in finding green solutions.
Since founding the embassy in the fall of 2020, we have been involved in several projects both in collaboration with the central Green Office and within the CIT. One ongoing project includes our involvement in the Ecosia campaign to which we provide advice regarding technical and legal aspects. Within the CIT, we have also created and administered a survey to assess our colleagues’ viewpoints towards sustainability and the role that IT plays in it. In March 2021, we hosted a lecture on energy usage of high performance computing (HPC), which was open to the CIT HPC team as well as an external audience. We are currently working on gathering information about the tendering process with regards to purchasing ICT equipment and services to ensure that sustainability is taken into account. We are also working on introducing sustainable gifts to employees and on implementing a Green ICT Maturity Model, which assesses the sustainability of IT processes in a systematic way and provides a baseline for improvement.
